A worker on the 911 (emergency ) phone said on tv that she felt guilty that when folks asked her what they should do in World Trade Center, she told them to stay put and await rescue --- how many casualties were caused by that simple failure to have a plan in case a jumbo-jet crashed into the towers, instead of the usual fire drill? I simply cannot go into detail in imagination about this. Perhaps in a decade Discovery tv will discuss this --- and I assume many actually had recently seen the re-broadcast by Discovery of their show about fires in such buildings, in which it was emphasized that one should stay put and await rescue --- I assume folks killled that day include some who watched that show. I have firmly fixed in memory the key image of the hopeful lady waving a white cloth from a very high window EXPECTING rescue --- minutes before the entire collapse.

The implications of the grand failure on many fronts by the safety establishment means simply that the real terrorist is our own stupidity --- rabid dogs abound, and only fools present themselves as naive victims. My anger is to the lying bastards who refused to take reasonable precautions, doubtless to avoid offending special interests, from architects to airlines. I hope now folks avoiding travel, do so partly due to anger at the entire industry which is still lying to one and all.

Only now, a few days ago, in an interview i happened to catch on Fox News, do i learn that once the symptoms appear one has only 10% chance to survive if antibiotics have not been started (incubation period is 2 weeks)(16 days). Happiness (a sense of well- being) is secondary. The mythic “pursuit of happiness” is actually a fleeing from non-status. Concern for human (or any other) life is secondary to this. Ergo, be always Macchiavellian and cynical.

Europe is giving subsidies to tobacco growers (to grow tobacco) because they are poor --- instead of subsidizing them to grow something else.
