3jun2001 howdy, Bub--- This domain explains how everything happens in spite of itself. I remember I had to write papers for a course i did not think I had to write papers for, so I made some trouble about it, and the pig in charge attacked me by reading to all something I wrote, as if it was a stupid thing I wrote just to throw some stupidity at him, which of course he was too clever to accept, which most laughed at as he intended, and altho my name was not pilloried, he knew I knew who wrote it---but the result was that I gained insight into the evil ways of my classmates, who were so silly as to be taken in by the teacher´s ploy.
But to do that, one has to start observing early that people are jerks. Indeed, the attgitude of these same classmates at being coerced into writing papers for that course, some months earlier than the event I just now described, prepared me, and made them all laboratory animals for me. Now, you have to understand that these folks prided themselves on being politically aware in general, I mean with Pete Seger songs and guitars at parties and feeling for the suffering poor and ethnically attacked---but in their own backyard they were wimps. And of course the big shots in charge were supposed to be models of justice, altho actually authoritarian pigs. So one learns in college that people fail to be what they pretend, as they vigorously pretend to be cultural and social leaders. Unfortunately some folks kill themselves when they see that---e g the famous case of the French suicide whose suicide note said “I cannot live in a world where everyone lies”.
We must teach children as soon as they can accept it, that indeed, everyone does lie: that is the lesson of Freud---we even lie constantly to our individual selves. Of course, the Tibetan Buddhists call what we do to ACCEPT THAT meditation. And the prime object of compassion in Buddhism (sez I) is oneself.
270601 0504 I do not pretend to be a hero, whether to you or to me or to anyone. The notion that parents should convey to children that parents know everything is sick. I exaggerate, but many parents approximate that pattern. Actually, parents should let kids understand that parents do not know much at all, and that when the kids grow up they won´t either --- but they will probably survive anyway. Indeed, if kids see that parents, not knowing much, still get along in life, the kids get the confidence to be ignorant and fly by the seat of their pants.
Anyway, kids really know deep inside that parents are jerks.
280601 1922 Interesting that due to evil behavior by some humans, certain animals need to be rescued by special caretakers, and this results in studies that can be helpful not only to improve such rescue, but also to develop awareness of human behavior. Watching chimps cared for I infer kindergarten and religion, with the caretakers both as teachers and gods. I ask myself where we really should draw boundaries in societies, similar to keeping problem chimp separate from them there kids; and how our ancesters extrapolated gods from the hierarchies of the farm and field, indeed, as implied in Genesis.
140701 02:15 Now what with this hyer new film about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, there are some books, including saying President Roosevelt engineered it; and as I have always said, if he did, he is even greater than otherwise---the American People is a great cow and USA should have not needed Pearl Harbor to get into World War 2: USA should have moved against Hitler years earlier.
180701 23:10 Maslow answered badly when I asked about introspection, by refering only to a group called The Introspectionists--- what I meant was actual introspection. This relates to what i am calling the anti-intuitive attitude of so-called science.
250701 16:17 Of course Sinbiosis is about paradox
23:05 Aldrich Ames; Henry, Henry Aldrich Coming, Mother --- Mother Russia. (There was a radio series “Henry Aldrich” and it started like that. Of course, note all rich. Don´t CIA top brass consider parents psychology and intergenerational influence potential in teir agents?
260701 01:08 SPORT (AS MUTATION) IN THOUGHT.
02:04 Mark Twain´s “Story of the old ram”(inaccurate title) re Snorre (mocking the style)(?).
Baby attention re not offending parents by giving all adult´s attention to kid; problem---must clarify to all adults that kid focus.
02:20 pride/humiliation play in nude posing; sexual imagination and contract of non-noticing.
to discuss: psychological accident: things happen that cause trouble between peole, acidentally---due to complexity of interaction i everyday life, and difficulty of communication --- also leads to ignorance-embracement ( avoidance of complex relationships and thought; so, with greater sophistication, more resilience, hopefully.
02: 24 Prosperity leads ipso facto to class distinction; ergo class play is needed.
cheaplt-smart manipulation/legitimation.
Why doesnt Australia have volcanoes?
The Jews who were not paranoid were killed.
A person who has discovered to place a bread-knife in the bread-wrapping as scabbord, is well on the way to being creative.
Is it a paradox or a conflict that people claim sovereignty based on population (eg, Kshmir, SriLanka,Ulster,Fiji,Kosovo, Palestine, etc)?
The West Virginia Paradox 2000: I point out the blatant irony that the electoral college system is designed precisely to establish the importance of little states like WV, but that was ignored by Gore---going for the big state Florida actually cost him the election; let that be a lesson.
The Capital Punishment Paradox: I point out that as to deterrence, when the people believe they get satisfaction vs culprits via executions, they feel secure in being law-abiding.
Consider the trouble people have expressing themselves without linking word to thing: they say in the beginning was the word, and the word was made flesh---but I suggest that this is because of their difficulty in communicating without refering to physically tactile objects: they seem unable to simply stay in the realm of abstract intangible. Of course, one can move reasonably from intangible to tangible; but they do not move freely---they are obsessed with the linkage.
140801 06:24 Of course not everything done unconsciously is bad: I make friends with my unconscious and relate with it as a friend whose shenanigans I tolerate due to the overwhelming benefit of the friendship.
06:27 We must teach people of all ages and degrees of intelligence how to distinguish between law which actually defines crime and law and practice and bureaucracy and dispute in the legal arena as negotiation---otherwise people in alienation lump it all together and cannot understand law at all, so they do whatever occurs to them. Many people, also cannot understand what is incest: weak-minded people consider that the child is not related by blood, so sexual child abuse is alright because it is not incest---nor do they understand that whatever the sexual impulse of the child, the adult has the responsibility to prevent sexual activity between children and adults. But it seems that society wants crime, so as to discover the bad folks, instead of preventing crime: there is a tendency to want to find out who is capable of crime, lest a therapeutic society allow the hiding of latent evil; after all, societies have a long habit of seeking objects of punishment. Unfortunately, in order to catch Mladich we need atrocities done by him, and victims so as to punish perpetraters. Presumably eventually a transition will occur (in some societies).
06:37 It is certainly a conflict (not a paradox) in politics, when democracy is invoked to protect the abominable practice of female-circumcision; I would like to see overwhelming force used to stop it.
08:02 To evaluate the contribution of Freud via his notion of Unconscious, compared to the notions of Unconscious given us by others in history, we have to note that Freud built a method of psychotherapy on his notion---who else did, previously?????
150801 17:22 Pal at bar said recently: “It´s funny how birds of a feather flock together”---so I said, that´s the begining of philosophy.
17:30 I assume I am smarter than a laboratory rat, but if a wall clock be removed to a place half a meter away, I do not see it; and I also will continually turn to the old position. In this I resemble crocodiles (they do not see food at the side (while being fed, of course, heh heh)(so cf re rats chasing straight ahead instead of deviating. And what if another rat behind him gets the food in original position while himself goes afetr decoy? and if i bother to correct that typo, will I miss a bus?
17:38 An image is not the same as an idea. more anon
17:42 A very important observation re psychology, is the (note it yourself) sequencing/repetition of re-hearing (or re-saying to oneself (as in reading like that)(or even if not)) so as to understand, or merely stuck in repeating, as automatic/instinct---to describe this takes slow presentation of this notion. more anon
21:21 conjecture; Socrates sounds like a rabbi; so maybe what infuriated the Greeks was his principled attitude (as opposed to their polytheist mob-rule way)---like him as Constitutional Law vs Common Law (agreed principles vs biggest sword in town). But anyway it seems to me that the particular strength of Greek philosophy then was its polytheist base (monotheism hobbled Europe).
290801 0511 Reading a description of “Character” in 1950 Encyclopedia Britannica, I conclude that it is a quasi-objective designation: We consider our own character as we build it and simultaneously look at it from the outside --- this is a function different from the superego, and different from the conscience; it is our basic toy throughout life.
0645 In college I learned to say i do not understand what you are saying, as John Van Doren taught that if you did not express yourself clearly he would not attempt to dope your meaning out --- this of course contrasted with Sigmund Freud. Unfortunately some students refused to learn , and insisted on blaming themselves when they did not understand Ingmar Bergmannnnn.
0649 One of my mother´s worst features was her belief that she understood herself. but this contrasted with my father´s conviction that there was nothing to understand.
0736 Lying in bed, I reach across with my left hand/arm to get something at my right side --- I could not get it with my right arm/hand: this explains the alternation in the brain etc.
120901 2010 Consider that simultaneous with the possibility (so to speak) of using big planes to blow up The World Trade Center, we have computers which backup the information (which would have on paper been lost)(except if backed-up anyway).
2114 The catastrophe yesterday might help get SDI, and thus make money for some (I mention paradoxically as it lost a lot of money for some). If SDI is practical per se, USA would be stupid and cowardly to reject it due to objections by Moscow and/or Beijing. I say if.
2120 I assume some people would have been glad to see The World Trade Center blown up, if it could have been done without loss of life --- I mean there are mixed emotions, paradoxically, about the buildings per se ( including the hideousness of the towers).
130901 2241 The passenger in the back seat has a wider angle of vision than the driver!!!!!!
2242 It is natural to hope that after something horrible happens to others, ones own will benefit from improvements attendant.´
2245 One of the less savory factors of people is their satisfaction that they themselves are not inferior to others, even when this is demonstrated thru catastrophe falling upon the others -- -indeed, the horror itself shoves folks back to being mere apes. Example is the germans after WW1 v v the Jews.
180901 2140 A law is a statistical version of people, so careful compassion must be re-introduced, and this is why we want human judges, but also wherein they fail. Actually, Western legal practice tries to go in theopposite direction, as bad as any mullah.
230901 1440 The unfortunate victims (and maybe Isaac Stern would have lived longer) of September 11, 2001 bought advantage for Washington in many ways, obscenely enough.
1442 And it would appear that Moscow prefers USA having influence in Afghanistan, instead of mad mullahs. But USA does not I suppose want to push it too far and antagonize Moscow.
1444 In the meantime I hope USA & Co. do not fail to see “the whole board”, i e, miss the myriad other issues that won´t wait, like the Bonobos and the Gorillas and the Orangutangs (I assume the gibbons are safe in Thailand etc?!?).
1525 Relevant to my great brand new formulation of the ultimate basic dynamic of the mentality and action of USA/Washington throughout history (“DIVIDE AND DIVIDE”) --- I point out, re (with reference to) Afghanistan: First USA sucked Moscow into Afghanistan ( by allowing itself to look weak in the area v v Khomeini, while of course actually in the meantime building up its presence in the Gulf region via Khomeini as boogyman )(Carter is more devious than Fu Manchu any day) so it bled itself to death in its bumbling bearish unfocused tradition, and actually becoming the suicide of USSR; then USA let the Afghanies divide among themselves; and then allowed the dominating factor (the Taliban) to divide against itself by including the deadly virus called bin -Laden ; Now USA (by the corollary of division (fusion))(i e, the alliance vs “global” terrorism) is dividing the Afghanies back to their usual divided-ism, and hopefully (?) eventually to a state of fusion (called “unity”)(if that suits the purposes of The Big Boys and Girls); and in the meantime Moscow seems pleased at all this, which accomplishes its general purpose of containing Mohammedans in its own territory (so to speak)(including Chechnia)(sp?), with new blood in Moscow after demise of USSR seeing itself in a new fusion with USA/Washington (not seeming to mind USA having influence in a proximity like Cuba to USA, but be careful. Anyway, it is yet another example of the principle I just today discovered, and repeat: “DIVIDE AND DIVIDE” (with corollary (i e, sometimes fusion) (very like with atomic energy)). By the way, note the folly of the old-fashioned crude way of dumb empire, “Divide and Rule” or “Divide and Conquer” --- USA/Washington is deeper than Macchiavelli or even fictional insidious inscrutible Fu Manchu. USA is by its very nature, passive: it always encouraged immigration and participation and inclusion (of course with certain limits), while serving up to immgrants the lands and bones of the original natives --- USA functions throughout its history as NEGOTIATOR, not as possessor --- it is anti-empire, and exists in the abstract, through the medium called money (and note that Alaska and The Louisiana Purchase were done by money (ah, yes, and the great factor of the abstract action: time (timing). I believe that people trying to escape my principle, will eventually find themselves enclosed in it; e g, to point to armed power does not refute the principle.
230901 1751 To many people, patriotism is like a false (pretended) female orgasm.
280901 2247 Breathing does not mean changing.
061001 2000 There is a psychological effect I call “Post-Laingianism” : the late great psychotherapist and author, Ronald Laing, tells of a man who (as I recall) got killed soon after surviving something, due to feeling exalted by surviving and thus forgetting to pay attention to life´s menaces in everyday life. I call that “Post Laingianism”. Watch out. I distinguish between that type of case, and the exaltation of plain and simple exaltation in a positive sense of just now having had something wonderful happen (as distinct from having survived a threat) --- so, negative or positive PostLaingianism.
2024 The infinite present, and the stability of change.
2025 “Adapt or die” is the phrase used by students of evolution.2348 Interesting resemblance between WTC and Midway, first attack low (some years ago) and then the dive bombers. I mention again the silliness of saying that “we” do not use suicide soldiers.
071001 0101 Men flattering women sometimes are robots failing to win thru to mamma, as they have always failed to do, so they know from the outset that what they are doing is futile --- therefore there is no relationship contemplated with the woman, since the name of the game is futility; so if the woman takes it seriously he is bewildered and contemptuous and full of hate, as it shows another world: acceptance vs his failed childhood.
1420 Watch out; my theory of anniversaries applies to September 11, 2002 etc --- suicides and copy-cats. Annversaries tend to be automatic rallying cries for bad deeds. more anon.
1425 Consider the actual fact, re Sept 11: One´s safety in those towers was actually dependent upon the skill of those supposed to keep away such terrorists --- if terrorists could get thru, one would be killed. That was the true situation of those who e g worked there day after day, as if in a tank in no-man´s land.
1429 About females performing as strippers: A stripper seems available, but because she´s a celebrity she´s fussy. She senses that she is on a pedestal. The male viewer knows this and also knows that she is being in a sense shamed. And, that she is shaming herself, in order to be on a pedestal. So this urge is even more shaming herself. So, without these urges you really don´t have sexiness --- and you can´t have any of that unless you have a condition of respect to start with. Therefore it is impossible for East European people to be sexy --- i e, female East European reflects their entire culture; and male likewise: he is in a culture where the women are brought up as mops, and he is part of all that.
081001 0100 Psychologically, the acts of Sept 11 are different from the japanese kamakazi : the japanese had little hope of achieving any significant purpose, but kamakaze was not desparate behavior, it had some prospect of effect --- the East europeans throwing things at USSR tanks, however, were generally acting in despair --- but the villains of September actually thought (in my opinion) that they were achieving something in the way of influencing the foreign policy of USA : so, I ask what produced men so unreasonable as to believe that absurdity; I suppose they were brought up terrorized physically and/or psychologically: a type who believe people are formed by fear and panic. Note that, also, the notion that martyrs go to heaven etc has to be presented at some phase of the development of the person; what effect does that have, psychologically? The bottom line in my understanding of this is that there is NO communication possible with such people, and the only hope for the future is to bring them up drastically differently. In the meantime, one hopes such people are not the majority in their ethnicity. And such aberrations have to be treated with the absolute contempt appropriate to people brought up to be rabid dogs.
lørdag 27. oktober 2001 21:38 Does anyone in our towns think to thank a fish if it´s particularly tasty (after you eat it)? I think some American Indians do. Anyway, Richard made a really tasty salmon yesterday, and it was even better at room temperature ( some hours later).
21:43 The life problem of excessive deviousness, brought about by having to deal with bad mother and destructive other kids over many years.
21:45 Another life problem: we have to learn to accept insult, but others especially other children and racists want us to be injured by insult in the sense that we do not accept insult. but in relationship, over long period of time, we can lose- out by taking insult from the other too seriously instead of realizing that time is on our side. At the same time one needs to let the other know one is not merely weak. But the other should be able to perceive this, and that ability is a test of value as friend.
21:52 Sara says how does your voice sound inside?
søndag 18. november 2001 01:39 People need fathers all of their lives --- even myself: that´s why I talk to myself.
02:16 I really get the feeling from seeing pictures of bin Laden and his pals that they are a bunch of spoiled brats --- hyper-indulged gimme types.
sinbiosis torsdag 17. januar 2002 14:44 I suggest theoretical discussion and development of theory, re the making of tv shows with audiences (and pretended audiences). This relates also to the question of how one enjoys e g a website: the matter of am I enjoying it myself, or am I evaluating it as to how I figure others would enjoy it or not enjoy it --- sort of like listening to Reagan manipulate folks vs what I myself really think. In oldtime theater, there was only (but not really only of course) the theater and the audience. And only contemporary (no electronic methods of recording etc) --- except for drawings and descriptions and comments. Now on tv shows, the audience is part of the presentation. And in future, the audiences will be studied. Note also the difference, say, between the canned laughter in the German dubbed version of “Married With Children” (Bundy) and the live American version --- national characteristics via producers judgment etc etc. A very pregnant topic for scholarly work. Done already once? And there is the politics of art.
Recently looking at Milgram´s famous book about “Obedience”, I suppose his experiments may be excellent, but his logic and conclusions are nowhere.
