window of opportunity
Let us call this section “Window of Opportunity” I need to take a rest because this chair in digging into my bottom. I will try a different type, also. insert 140801 I note on net, items with this name but refering to business opportunities: this one is only politics.
31may2001 Actually I have been typing some other stuff and want to stop for now. Afterward I will tell youabout the mysterious bus-stop that I really do not believe moved.
3jun2001 actually i put that bit into my domain Munchausen.net.
2jun2001 hello again. I hope we can save the Bonobo Chimpanzees. but I do not know how. They are found only in Congo. What are we to do?
These are the animals most like human beings. Are we embarrassed? I mean at the resemblance? I mean one would assume we all would vigorously move to save animals so close to ourselves, and since this does not happen, I suspect paradox, as I just suggested---are we perversely motivated to get rid of those embarrassing like ourselves but not human?
But what will our descendants say of us?
The orangutangs also are at risk---why do we allow a mafia in Indonesia to do this to us? to all of us? our posterity? our close simian (ape) relatives?
about USA politics: Senator Jeffords having brought attention to the question of the independent candidate etc, I hope people will reralize that it is stupid to mount an independent attack in the election for President/VP. Such attacks should be in elections for Congress (both Houses). The Presidency stands as castle for certain political values and interests---that is the way the system is set up.
About city politics: the notion of Zero Tolerance is still important. It is too easy otherwise for police etc to say never mind we have no time for that. I had thought of zero tolerance well before it was put into practice in NYC, and I emphasize that the principle applies in all directions: the 21st Century should be that of Responsibility---zero Tolerance of policing and politics and criminology and ecology etc. Here in Oslo the police department is completely unreliable, like the Wild West---so who to attack? and how to attack complacency. I discuss these questions with reference to Northern Europe in my section Laughtor.com.
14jun01 19:49 I wonder why the Israelis do not do more to actually thwart bomb attempts---it is almost it seems to me that they have some machiavellian purpose, or strange attitude. I mean a suicide bomber approaches a market and is turned away by guard so he blows himself up; another approaches a line at a disco same. But why are there not devices there like bombproof cages to encapsule the bomber? I mean with proper tests etc. And how foolish to have a line waiting anyway --- like several years ago when soldiers waiting for hitch-hikes at a popular spot for that got blown up; pretty dumb.
Which connects to the whole question of so-called “friendly fire”--- clearly far from enough is done to prevent that; is there a special section clearing equipment and training to prevent soldiers from killing their buddies accidentally during military action? why not? not macho?
Here in Norway yesterday one of the main newspapers had a big spread about how the natives are generally pleased with the bureacracies and services etc, jerks that they are---and what is the machiavellian agenda for such market research,so to speak? I will comment on that all in my domain called Laughtor.com (about political folly in this part of the world).
Sorry, but how come folks are allowed to participate in political demonstrations with masks on?!
090701 19:42 Two kinds of tyranny; over the body and over the mind; the former by the sword, the latter by democracy.
21:48 The President swears to defend the national interest of the United States; but do Congressmen?!
290801 0457 A few days ago in Britain four people were killed by a car being chased by police in the wrong lane --- why do we not hear much of this problem, which is far more important than Ireland or Israel?!
0516 these items are out of order (chron.)(i do not know why)--- I am distressed that BBC World TV constantly promotes London´s proxies (the Indians) in Fiji --- I side with the native Fijians, and Spait (sp?)
250701 16:28 Is it possible that Carlo giuliani was set up by the mafia? and why did another cop point gun at him but another shot---usual Italian trick?????
260701 00:20 Is Bush planning to pull a fast one for votes by getting some sort of ecology agreement by using international furor to manipulate Congress?
020801 01:28 Why didn´t Ho Chi Minh prevent The Vietnam War?
01:41 International relations is the friend of the city, as otherwise it would be stuck with its own countryside, and/or other cites in its own country. And consider this re ancient Athens etc.
060801 21:10 What would Western politicians etc do if imported Moslems threw rocks at nudists on the beach???
070801 11:01 WATCH OUT FOR BUSH AS BAD CLAUDIUS: THE BITE OF THE FUMBLEBEE. And remember the “mad-man” approach used by Kissinger with Nixon.
290801 0632 On Ibiza there is at least one very dangerous road (near San Antonio) (according to BBCWorldTV)---such should be international responsibility, e g, EU, and even any nation whose nationals go there. intolerable situation. I hope that the similar situation in Portugal (Argave) has been straightened out?!
0705 Interesting that China celebrates its entry into World Trade Organization, by destroying major Tibetan centers. Actually, is there a China? Is it not too big to be a country? toomany people? who is represented? who are the anti-Tibet clique, and why? China is simply pathetic --- one cannot respect it.
120901 1832 About World Trade Center catastrophe yesterday: Altho when it was built it was (we are told) “tested” and found to be proof against airplanes crashing into it (would not collapse), and then newer planes would indeed be able to make the towers collapse, still folks were (it seems) allowed to believe it was still proof --- and precautions were not taken specifically to guard against the use of such bigger planes by terrorists (if you want to jump on a flight without boring defensive regimes, use a smaller plane, but with the bigger planes you must submit to stringent checks properly performed). Ultimately of course the victims yesterday were the victims of the blind venal incompetent irresponsibility of the public at large, which still has not got proper flight control systems at airports. And the number of people killed yesterday cannot match the number killed on the roads and by drugs and assorted crime and stupid accident and tobacco, etc.
And consider that it is no secret that the towers collapsed due to the intense heat --- so why did not the fire and police chiefs keep their people out of those buildings and announce that the civilians were forfeit? Even in the event, the truth is unavailable. The victims were victims of the cow-like denial by the people generally, as docile creatures of the media. And how come the people could not get out on their own? No proper backup lighting? no flashlights planted here and there?--- the simple truth is that anyone in such a building is at risk, and should get combat pay. But the investers would not like that.
The Darwinian principle is stated in reverse vector: it certainly is NOT “Survival of the fittest” --- it is extinction of the unfit: People who want to survive must learn to try always constantly to improve their chances: e g, as we have journals of which cars have which features, we need same for which basic factors (buildings, roads, subways, etc) are safer or less safe; I do not believe the movie houses in Oslo are safe and I do not visit them (and I have no faith in the peasants in charge of safety in this land of incompetence --- I expect things to go wrong; my attitude is contempt and loathing).
1903 By the way, who recently bought the WTC?
1904 Let us remember now the famous fire at the Triangle Building.
1958 I guess the attack was not by those opposed to Globalization, but maybe the perpetrators expected some support from them.
Actually, the obvious bet is Saddam Hussein, or maybe some who on their own initiative decided to avenge the attack on Baghdad by Pappa Bush. (obvious is not always correct)
130901 2051 Also re Saddam: instead of precision bombing of Iraq, it is precision bombing of USA; the cleverness of the Iraqis (according to Saddam).
2053 Bush kept saying “humble” in the campaign --- what does that mean now? especially with Powell´s absolutist military theory? Now, as Pappa Bush had oil, Jr has terrorism as excuse: we wouldnt want anything so unRepublican as philanthropic humanitarian obligation to intervene in enlightened self interest beyond the crudest motives, now would we? None of Clinton´s arrogant lack of humbleness in former Jugoslavia, what. And of course intervention in Ruanda etc would not even be imagined at all. But in truth we live in a world of morality, with morale influenced by self-image, and it was the american people with their foul media which opposed USA intervention early in Bosnia.
If the american people were pro-active really policemen of the world, USA would be safer, instead of hated as smug. With power goes responsibility. Immediate action against Malosevich etc would have enabled immediate action in Ruanda etc. The coldwar neurosis excuse for inaction has not yet been got past --- nor have our so-called friends internationally got past their resentment of our power; they still complain if we seem anything approaching being policeman of the world. But the human race needs a policeman, judge and executioner. What we have now in Washington etc is opportunist lowlifes manipulating power without principle for the lowest motives. And they are willing not only to kill for that, but also to die for it. Avoid them. Suspect them. Pity the sheep. Stay out of the herd (people are usually uncontrollably gregarious). Check your own script constantly, and beware of the scripts of friends etc.
2117 I guess the culprits did it because they found out they could --- USA is an easy target, what with its blouted wealth and the blinding effect that has on everyone involved. USA has to train itself to look at itself from the eyes of the downtrodden and the excluded and exploited. I am not in any way suggesting that we are required to make sure that people are not treated badly: people are and always have been treated badly --- but while the american people accept a large degree of downtroddenness, others elsewhere are not so well manipulated by USA media etc, and are less tolerant. Of course, leadership may come to them from the undowntrodden who exploit their downtroddenness for their own egoes (e g ben Ladden). But the main enemy of USA is smugness, ah, and self-righteousness: I am not suggesting that USA become a saintly society; far from it --- all I am saying is that it should (to protect itself) accept that it is a “WE” in a “WE vs THEM” conflict.
The number of americans killed this week by terrorists is far less than the number of americans killed every year by american stupidity, whether by tobacco or bad driving etc. And far far less than the number of people killed throughout the world indirectly by american stupidity, venality and irresponsibility (including callousness re milieu, environment, ecology, animal protection etc and whatever you like to call it --- when Bush says his first consideration is the american economy, america can expect no respect in any moral sense whatever. Of course, I , having been brought up to have faith in the U S Supreme Court, have lost all respect for my country´s political institutions after the Florida treason. Be that as it may, the reality internationally is that usa exploits the rest of the world, in collusion with its economic bed-mates, and there is no escape from that --- it is fundamental. So let´s make it as painless as we can.
WE NEED A CABINET POSITION DEDICATED TO SAFETY --- as it is now, we do not need terrorists to harm us, we do that well enuf on our own. We have a conflict between economic private interest and safety, on the basis that money is historically made by cheating, and in usa money truly is GOD. So we need an authority higher than money --- that is SAFETY. And what about Russia building a flock of atompower plants!!!!!! The Russians are the most incompetent people in the world (not as bad, of course, as the Italians, who are the most perverse people in the world)(If the Russians and the Italians get together on atompower, you can kiss your ass goodbye). (By the way, I mention again that it is mighty odd that the prospect of a Russian Navy base at Vietnam does not rouse screams from USA!!!!!!!!!!!)
150901 1819 Why not let the World Trade Center catastrophe be the death-knell for sky-scrapers generally?!? Are they really needed? especially now with the web etc?
1905 I HAVE BEEN WONDERING, ABOUT WORLD TRADE CENTER CATASTROPHE, is Saddam seeking revenge on Bush family; but, hearing that Bill Clinton was to move to New York, and his wife Senator, could it have been Ladden seeking revenge on Clinton, assuming Clinton (one or both) to have office there? And note, cleverness in that sense of Clinton placing himself in Harlem.
1926 Poor Mayor Giuliani, losing more in one day than he saved by zero toerance --- or, we can compare and say you see how daily life is statistically.
180901 1849 Suicides are likely especially around anniversary of sept 11.
1911 The events of sept 11 2001 are far less important than the collapse of the U S Supreme Court in the 2000 Presidential Election. and it disgusting to now have in the current emergency a usurper instead of a proper President. You can be sure that any hopes you may have for a constructive outcome in the anti terrorism compaign will be disappointed by the crookedness of the Republicans.
230901 1154 I WONDER IF USA & CO. HAVE THE WIT TO RESCUE THE Afghani innocent bystander civilian refugees and displaced persons or is about to let them starve and freeze etc. instead of realizing that they constitute a significant proportion of the goal population, in a battle in which square miles is not the point.
Notice that the pope is disassociating himself from a campaign pushed by Protestant Missionaries, who will doubtless be infesting Afghanistan in a few years.
1158 Here in Oslo, much time and money etc is wasted to combat graffiti and tagging (putting one´s name or symbol on walls etc. --- but Norway spends money to subsidize its ghastly establishment arts of all sorts otherwise, so why not leave the grafiti-ists etc alone, or concentrate on stopping tagging (but that would discriminate against the talentless, something Norwegians avoid).
1318 I have now achieved yet another of my great wisdoms, competing with Einstein´s “E=mc2”(this keyboard does not do supers): The fundamental dynamic of Washington foreign policy since even before 1776, I mean absolutely consistently, in the philosophic basic sense, this explains it all: DIVIDE AND DIVIDE.
280901 1437 It´s a good thing Ronald Reagan has Altzheimer, or he would prevent the closing of his airport --- which with poetic justice has been declared too dangerous.
1439 I liked hearing the saudi diplomat say it is foolish to ascribe grand motives to these terrorists --- indeed, they are as described by Goering, speaking of his own Nazis, that “We were merely a gang of thugs who had a good time for awhile”. When we look in history at nations with human sacrifices in spite of rich culture and wonder how come, we should accept the utter banality of power thru generations: a few bad guys who like to rape and kill arranged by being priests to get away with it, and then it became standard habit thru generations --- but they were merely thugs in power, like the Republicans in USA. The Taliban like to practice sexual humiliation and sit around masturbating while looking at fully clothed and masked females --- its merely another form of sexual humiliation, perverts that they are.
As to Islam, remember that Mohammed was occupied in trying to improve a bestial group of savages, even as was Moses and Jesus and Jefferson: we do not blame the psychiatrist for the sickness the patients brought to her/him. Read Poe´s “The System of Dr Tarr and Professor Feather”.
1453 In 1950 a car with seat-belts could not have been sold --- maybe in a few decades travellers will accept real airline security (not to mention the rest of us on the ground expecting them in our laps at any moment).
1456 Maybe also this will open folks (a word beloved of our Usurper)(Bush) to the bizarre notion of change of basic attitudes, like saving the apes and other species (e g, us) by sane ecology --- I would not join any coalition vs terrorism unless USA ratifys and uses the Kyoto Agreement forthwith --- the number of casualties September 11, 2001 is far far fewer than those caused continually (among apes too) by USA ecology policy, which Usurper calls less important than USA economy, pig that he is. (By the way, is he supposed to advertise Disney World in Florida (where his brother Jebbbb is guv)?
1502 What if those planes had crashed onto the field during the final game of World Series at Yankee Stadium?
1503 Is this the end of sky-scrapers? and who needs them? or will they be protected by the equivalent of destroyers (around an aircraft carrier) --- rods to protect and to aid escape (I mean REAL BIG ones)(sort of radical extensions of Stone´s screens for privacy).
1507 Everyone must be fingerprinted and DNAd.
1508 I am sorry, but Clinton really dropped the ball re terrorism --- there were tons of things he should easily have done.
1509 The rods would in the distant future be compared to the flying buttresses on e g, Notre Dame (and guys with guns like gargoyles). Also, the skyscrapers should be designed like suspension from top from towers so they do not collapse under weight of top so quick. And pilots have escape chamber whence could fly plane. And must keep to established routes --- if this had been done when planes were being diverted to e g, Cuba, bad guys would have learned they cannot sky-jack. But people tend to need to be dragged kicking and screaming and dying into policies that altho apparent to the wise, are prevented by the venal exploiting the foolish (or could the airlines etc have been so stupid as to not foresee the current economic losses? --- or in the long run is their plan the same anyway, taking chances then so as to be in at least a position to survive now or later --- but we have to re-examine Carter´s deregulation of the airlines. And consider the hypocrisy of Reagan vs flight controllers, saying airlines are strategic, and then failing to protect them (and what about safety per se, like the long awaited new radar etc for airports?).
1522 We cannot reasonably ignore the sickness of having three dozen children --- we in USA procreate similarly to the father of the terrorist with anonymous seed/egg donors and cannot be unaware that this creates bright monsters.
1525 By the way, Eisenhower´s book about WW2: “Crusade in Europe”. Was that as far as Usurper thought? or does he use
Claudius tricks, like “Infinite Justice”, and apologize after winning points with Rednecks?
1528 Embarrassing if the Indians in Southern Mexico were still throwing bombs etc, what?
1530 Considering that the possibility of a plane crashing into WTC was not only accepted, but tested for with smaller planes, and as any fool could plainly see, planes now are not planes then, were users or potential users of WTC (not to mention the large planes) warned that the towers would indeed melt down if...? Is there not reason for myriads of lawsuits, ala tobacco, vs all concerned?
1540 Think of the Oedipal problems of a guy with 57 siblings!
1541 Of course if you´re fourteen and not likely to get several or any wives you might want, since others have several already (the ocology of polygamy), you might opt for houri heaven. And if you are one of the fortunate few with many wives, you do not want to arouse envy by letting it be seen that you not only have several, but also have the prettiest. The entire problem is sexual perversion, based on the not seeing women as people, seeing their genitalia as untenanted by any human form, in other words, the concealing of them is not Puritanical, it is sexual obsession to the point of sadistic insanity, institutionalized.
1548 I guess religious nuts in USA are taking Sept 11 as a warning like Sodom and Gomorrah.
1552 In the old days we thought it was terrible if a plane got skyjacked --- now, we´re relieved if it came down in Pennsylvania in a field.
1553 What about the new huge Airbusses?
1554 People now have the chance to see what several thousand looks like, and can better gauge 50,000 (Americans killed in Vietnam)(Americans and Brits killed each year on the roads)(the largest number is posterity, as it just goes rolling on like a juggernaut thru eternities of stupid massacre) --- or the vast numbers continually killed by USA ecological callousness.
1601 Does anyone care about the naval base Moscow is building in Vietnam?
1602 Will air-marshals be filtered regularly by psychological tests, like CIA agents, heh heh?
1604 Movement of passengers must be regulated, altho exercise fights blood-clots.
1606 Taliban is nearly precise repeat of European witch-hunting, and helps us understand Europe´s past and the Vatican Inquisition (especially in France).
1610 Of course no one cares how those infinitely large residential cruise ships are to be protected, or from what.
1652 I wonder what Sirhan Sirhan is doing these days.
1755 If Taleban want to be famous in what they fancy to be future Islamic history, they may want to imitate the ancient awful practice of destroyig the infidel work of the infidel: so destruction of the Buddhist statues may have been to them a macabre joke prelude to destroying the religious symbols of infidel Washington, e g, WTC --- i e, WTC etc qua (as) religious symbols and symbolic of the infidel culture. Indeed, Usurper may have done a ”bear service “ (as it is called in Norwegian)(actually destructive assistance) by mentioning Disney World (and by inference Disney whatever).
2223 People who don´t know anything don´t want to believe that there is anything to know.
There seems to be some real conflict: if you have a religion that is based on obedience, you can´t easily fit into the 21st century.
2239 Robert Kennedy said (quoting Shaksper) “The past is prologue” --- but consider (altho I do not agree with the statement) the macabre implication re Dallas ´63 and his own death. One remembers crises in USA history since l962: Cuban Missile Crisis, Dallas ´63, Martin L King and RFK in ´68, Vienam War, and the direct and indirect casualties on all sides. And the collapse of USA Supreme Court in 2000.
2300 Each Presidential Administration must realize that the nation persists consistently and continues thru administrations and so the President has to conceaive of the nation not as a string of beads irresponsible from administration to administration, and realize that events international as well as domestic cannot dance to the rhythm of our election schedule --- Clinton, even unable possibly to accomplish completely an agenda re bin Laden and Taleban should have at least begun, and certainly in the defensive dimension. Indeed, to the extent that we are obviously tied to that rhythm others can take advantage of our lack of poise in time.
061001 1913 There is a very bad principle in operation, which I call “The Atrocity Principle: i e, that in order to get eg the American People to do anything responsible internationally (or even domestically) , an atrocity has to occur, to galvanize opinion and catalyse action --- Srebrenitza had to happen so as to get the American People etc off their asses; and the President did not dare to go forward without the atrocity. Similarly with September 11.
1919 President Bush should have been able to tell Saddam that Iraqi military had to keep a certain distance from Kuwait or else.
You can see why he would not have done that --- it simply is not the way USA does business. Too bad.
1923 Of course Clinton should have said he saw the obvious connection between knighting young General Rose and requiring him to be a good little puppy; accordingly USA should have said that to protect its own honor and that of UN, the British bluff had to be called, and USA would itself intervene as it saw fit in any emergency in Bosnia. (No campaign promise to tie the hands of the USA military, or of the President once he has taken the oath of office, can be taken seriously, and indeed, such questions or statements in such election campaigns should be illegal.)
1929 If you place an empty bucket out where it rains you can expect it to get wet --- form follows pattern: if USA goes around naked at night in backalleys it can expect to get raped, if not by bin Laden, then by any adult delinquents --- they do it to USA because USA asks for it by smugly assuming nobody would attack sweet virtuous Americans, so no real precautions are needed. They bombed us because we were an easy target. Mt Everest is at least difficult.
2320 Note that islamic terrorists are different from enemies like e g Milosevich, who are merely thugs --- The Islamics are (supposedly) like the Japanese in WW2, knowing only victory or death. So diplomacy has a different role.
071001 0011 Our notions of privacy must be de-romanticized. Everyone in USA must be identifiable by records of fingerprint, blood type, and DNA. In 1950 you could not sell a car with seat-belts --- maybe eventually people will accept precautions rejected now. I have been saying that this century should be the century of responsibility, and maybe we are starting to catch on right now; but maybe not --- maybe Usurper likes the present situation because it distracts us from being responsible for ecology. And maybe terrorism is easier to fight than mafia. More cut and dried.
071001 0027 I am sorry, but Gore´s choice for Vice President ranckles --- I do not agree that what Clinton did with Monica was wrong, and i resent choosing someone on the basis that he said it was. Very insulting. And panders to the sanctimonious.
0032 Don´t get me wrong about USA: Altho I prefer some aspects of Scandinavian society, i figure that whatever can be said against USA internationally goes in spades for the Europeans --- it´s just that i expect more from USA, especially as it has the power; but much of my complaining about USA is due to its allowing the pigs of Europe to persist as swine (e g in Bosnia War).
0039 Once you allow priests to run a government, you´re in real trouble. That is the tragic flaw of Islam.
0040 I tend foolishly to assume that even the religious do not take all that crap about their gods seriously: they can´t really believe Jesus is the son of Jehovah --- but they do (not all of course). When they refuse to even discuss changes one can´t do anything but pity them. If they insist that their holy book is actually the work of their god, instead of the work of human beings, nothing can be done with them. And of course to such people god is important and no human product is so important as to compete. To such people separation of church from state is an absurdity --- they pray for an end to it. They expect it to end.
0050 It is insipid to say nationalism is dead.
101001 2034 Maybe FBI and/or Bush etc let it happen (Sept 11) because it would help Bush.
søndag 14. oktober 2001 16:14 Of course, abstracting from the attention-getting events, to the consideration of what bin Laden etc really WANT: USA is (e g Latin America) known over the decades for supporting whatever tyrants serve its purposes, so, if one wants revolution in the Arab/Moslem states of Mid East, one wants USA out. If we look back to the Carter era, in my own analysis of the Iran Hostage Situation, USA got entree into the area for its military, on the basis that Khomeini etc constituted threat to e g, Saudi Arabian regime. At that time, USA had to contain USSR --- keep it away from Gulf. But now, what is USA´s motivation for remaining there? Iraq? And what is the prospect for improvement in the politics (democracy etc) of regimes like Saudi? These questions should be considered anyway, quite apart from Sept 11. But from all sides of the issue: a bin Laden type government is undesirable from a Western viewpoint, I assume. So there is real political conflict --- realpolitik, quite apart from Moslem nutters. Bin Laden thinks Arabia is ruled by Allah --- USA thinks Arabia is ruled by oil. Since oil is the real Satan, oil sources, e g, North Sea, should beware the attentions of bin Laden. As Sadam did not hesitate to harm ecology in Gulf War, we cannot assume the waters and coasts of North Sea are safe. On the other hand, what should USA etc do to defeat the bin Laden types?
onsdag 17. oktober 2001 18:54 We do not now hear about Powell´s dicta re how to enter a war, what? no limited goals, no exit policy, etc, yo ho ho. The problem really was the need to spoonfeed the American Puerile.
19:58 I do not see why we should suspend military operations for Ramadan --- but now it may be to our advantage, in better allowing humanitarian aid. Of course, for similar devious reasons we should have dealt differently with Iraq, viz, by taking over direct care of the needy in Iraq, and shunting Saddam domestically. The whole bottom line in Iraq is to re-define sovereignty.
lørdag 27. oktober 2001 16:28 About Israel: For 2000 years Europeans etc proved they could not be trusted v v Jews, so it was decided to eliminate the shameful problem by giving the Jews back their ancient homeland. That is why there is the State of Israel. As to the people residing in the geographically designated location Palestine, they were subjects of the Turkish Empire (the Ottoman Empire) for centuries, until Turkey, being on the losing side in WW1, lost its empire --- there never was a national entity of Palestine; “Palestinian” is not a national designation, it is a general category describing those who reside in the geographical area called, in the geographical sense, Palestine. I suggest that to be fair to one and all, the people called Palestinians should be assigned, as a brand new national homeland, central Italy from about 100 kilometers north of Rome, down to Naples. After all, it was ancient Romans who caused all the trouble to begin with. by the way, does bin Laden care about the national aspirations of Kurds?
As to USA v v Israel, re offending friends of the Palestinians, remember that without the restraining hand of USA the Palestinians would have been massively worse off --- if Israel could do what it really wanted, independent of USA (and feels morally justified in, due to having been attacked repeatedly by its neighbors as part of a policy of elimination) I guess Israel`s policies would be so extreme as to make the actual, current, situation the fondest wish of Palestinians. As it is, the Israelis are politically restrained by the very peoples they fled. This creates conflicts. Israel is ungovernable, partly because a significant factor is the religious party (accordingly the absurdity of the Israeli settlements smack dab in territory supposedly going to the Palestinians (this on the basis of drivvle derived from the Bible). Of course, the Palestinians also are ungovernable.
Consider e g that if truly self-reliant, Israel could have had a policy that crimes of political violence by Palestinians would be punished by modular removal of land from the negotiating table, such that if such violence continued, eventually the Palestinians would have no land left possible to ever get, and would have to simply leave the area, especially as a parallel policy would deport them in numbers reflecting the degree of violence, and with a zero-tolerance guideline. There could also have been a deadline date for negotiations after which without agreement everything would go permanently to Israel. Too bad there will not be until at least a century later a government resembling the Federal government in Washington, to control the warring factions in the region as if they were states like Mississippi and Massachusetts.
But blaming USA re Israel/Palestinians is pure demagoguery by the cynical vocal element in the vast sea of inarticulate peasants/serfs and in the swamp of educated fools of whatever religious affiliations, at the same time warning USA to stay home and not be the “policeman of the world”. Grow up. Planet Earth is not a kindergarten. Human beings are the most dangerous animal on the planet. Israel is not a minor child of USA. But of course, some hypocrites still try to play the anti-Jew game (used to be called “anti-semite”, but that would include Arabs), hoping to alienate the American People from the Jews. In the meantime if Syria wanted the Golan Heights, it should have long ago shown it by cooperating with Israel in destructon of Israel´s enemies --- as it is Syria can expect nothing whatsoever from Israel, and Syria has only itself to blame, not USA. In the meantime a result of September 11, 2001 is that some people no longer look upon Arabs/Moslems as sad children manipulated by Lawrence of Arabia, but as potentially dangerous adults.
One might have thought that now that USA itself has been hit, the American People would have deeper understanding for how Israeli´s have been feeling. And the disgustingly pathetic image of Palestinian juvenile delinquents (obscenely egged on by their ignorant mothers) throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers, has been superceded by the image of adult suicidal sexual perverts enjoying the dying of the females in planes and sky-scrapers. But some have yet to wake up to the fact that such as bin Laden and his gang are sexual deviates, complete with harems and hatred of females. And of course BBC news maintains its sanctimonious hypocrisy in all directions, still wallowing resentfully in the throws of loss of empire. Space this watch.
As to collateral casualties among civilian Afghanis: USA etc are engaged in building a reasonable future for Afghanistan, pulling the Afghanies out of the Middle Ages, and rescuing them from stagnation in a pool of war-lords, drug-lords, gender-brutes, and religious fanatics --- while attempting to set up Afghanistan as a modern state with secure boundaries. Throughout history peoples have paid heavily for such achievement, including by dying for it. The distinction between civilian or military casualties is a conceit. And what is obscenely called “friendly fire” is always with us.
19:24 Usurper speaking recently to kids said “Our struggle is against evil people, people that claim they are religious but are not” --- now, a child could get the impression that our struggle is against people who are evil because altho they claim to be religious are not religious; i e, that it is evil to be not religious. (intended?)
19:39 Of course USA made Taliban an offer they could not accept. Same done to entrap Serbia v v Kosovo (“independent”), to get war. I like that.
20:17 re President as amateur: lack of competence is de facto system of conspiracy, for who would shames bear who can avoid them by deceit? Consider this re LA justice system as seen in O J Simpson case, and in any situation (including the administration at your place of employment or education).
23:07 Anyway, terrorism is not the main threat --- ecology is the main threat. And the failure of the U S Supreme Court in the 2000 Presidential election is a disaster far worse than Sept 11, and repesents a threat to USA far greater than terrorism.
mandag 29. oktober 2001 20:22 Interesting that bin Laden wants USA out of Saudi, and so does Saddam --- why is USA there, if not to oppose Saddam? Qui bono says bin Laden in cahoots with (or trying to impress) Saddam (to get USA military out of Saudi).
30101 1600 I hope the horrid question asked then , "Is Bosnia worth one American life" would bring a different response now. I guess foolish questions as to what are our specific war aims, in policy, out policy, etc. ala Powell´s simple minded theory, are now pushed aside. And if USA expects compassion or even cooperation due to or casualties in Megalopolis USA, we should re-examine our own callousness over the years.
tirsdag 6. november 2001 14:28 On Fox News today (yesterday) Richardson (former Secy Energy) was pushed by truly obnoxious host (Shepard Smith)(Fox´s worst) but dodged emphasizing (altho mentioning in passing) the matter of USA forces in Saudi. heh heh. We are of course careful with Saudis because we want those bases. And as to oil, it is not to kiss their ass, but to protect Saudi from destabilizaton. Of course, if Mayor Giliani had been a diplomat, he would have thanked that Prince for the money especially as you must know we must agree to disagree...
14:52 About caves and mosques (and Vietcong type tunnels) as hiding places for enemy: I emphasize that I know nothing but what I see on tv. It seems Afghani caves are less difficult than tunnels in jungle (as guest on Fox pointed out) for obvious reasons. And General Winter will be our friend in several ways. Assuming that the neutron weapon is not desirable, here are some way- out ideas, that could be used in combination (some too far out). Trained killer dogs and rats etc. (How about killer pigs (wild boars)) Supersonic sound (against personnel and to start avalanches). napalm to turn snow to ice. domes to drop onto mosques to seal up inhabitants (attempting to get out would set off implosion killing and destroying mosque (by their hand)). Drop tons of snow or boiling water (or almost freezing) or boiling oil on mosque; mix in flakes of rubber etc. air-tight best, not to be opened until after war over. Tell them this will be done --- it might discourage them. Really seal up caves (making sure all exits are accounted for including Indiana Jones type), with cement and barbed wire and booby traps etc. Pour gasoline into caves. How about tear-gas (do they use masks?) Detonate those huge bombs at exits (best several exits at once, plus top of mountain). Getting bin Laden himself personally is not worth one American life. By the way, neither is saving Afghani civilians from our bombs --- we are rescuing Afghanistan from the backwardness of the Afghanis. Of course, the sooner we flush the bad guys, the sooner we can save civilians.
Indeed, we better be quick, or else we will get help from the Italians, which will doom us. The Italians are absolutely perverse --- look what they did to the solar probe. Anyway, Norway is the land of incompetence (sorry i did not get to tell you that before the Oslo Accords), and, having no power, Norway relies on influence for security, including being Goody Two Shoes, so bad guys would be embarrassed to attack. So ignore silly stuff from Norwegian politicians ( like stop cluster bombs and stop bombing) the Norwegians are brought up to be internationally politically correct (it also lets them the better sweep their own foibles under the rug).
15:28 About Israel vs The Palestinians: USA cannot be blamed for not taming Israel: Ever since 1948, Israel´s policies toward Palestinians have been tempered by the expectation of emergency aid from USA; otherwise Israel (and these are only my opinions) would have taken a much harder line as to secure borders. Excessive pressure now from USA could turn proto-war into total-war, by prompting “lager” mentality --- if Israel were to doubt support from USA, it would likely come down hard on the Palestinians (instead of coddling them, as it is doing and has generally been doing), and confront Syria militarily.
But of course, the Islamic terrorists have an agenda which ignores the welfare of the Palestinians, and exploits them in the classic game “Let´s you and him fight”. The international terrorists pretending to help the Palestinians, are really using the Palestinians as pawns against the existence of Israel.
The bin Laden types cynically play with the ignorant masses of Islam. Whether or not, e g, bin Laden himself is as nutty as he presents himself, he (as did Hitler) offers an image of hysterical true-believer-ism. Demagogues do not have to be as asinine as their supporters; they just have to pretend to be.
In the meantime, there is a structural conflict intrinsic to the problem of Democracy: the corollary of Jefferson´s dictum that an informed populace is the best defense of democracy, is that to the degree that the populace is NOT informed, to that degree is it incapable of democracy. Of course being informed is not a panacea, especially as information is commonly tainted. But a culture that avoids intellectual responsibility is not suited to democracy. If a society clings to ignorance as a way of life, the notion “Democracy” cannot apply. A populace devoted to obediance cannot progress in thought. This problem is not unique to Islam: European history is largely characterized by the conflict which came to its crisis in The Reformation vs The Counter-Reformation.
The crux of the matter of living in a civilized society is to resist taking authority too seriously.
To be REASONABLE means to trust one´s own judgment. Self subordination can safely be fun as a playful activity, but only when the basic self-respect is functioning at all times.
I suggest that the prime motivation of people is to feel RIGHT. Accordingly, when they do not believe they can understand, they cling to a rightness absurd from understanding --- when Descartes said “I think therefore i am”, the real significance was that he did not say “I KNOW therefore I am”; that is what the Pope “said”.
Democracy is experimental.
tirsdag 6. november 2001 20:23 Gingrich indeed lumped together (on Fox News last week) terrorists and drug dealers: of course it would be nice if the anti terror stuff could spread over to getting drug dealers --- I am not a fan of silly protections of privacy etc. I am utilitarian and pragmatic, for experimental democracy, practiced reasonably; instead of worshiping a fetich of neurotic rights. Who is the worse terrorist, bin Laden or Charlton Heston?!
tirsdag 6. november 2001 20:28 Asshole John Major (Izetbegavich´s (sp?) worst enemy) says the prospect of ground forces attack led Malosevich to give up, but I say the reverse: that he realized there would be no ground attack so he gave up --- his hope was to trap USA into a ground attack. My discussion of Kosovo as historic pure air campaign applies to Afghanistan also: USA should not be confused about this: ground forces are best used solely to support air campaign. Clinton goes down in history as setting the pattern and proving “Victory thru Airpower”.
21:42 I mean really --- the very idea that all of Saudi Arabia, not only certain sections, like Mecca and Medina, is sacred ground forbidden to the infidel --- what an insult to the intelligence of bin Laden´s constituency, so to speak. I mean he sounds most like a whining four year old. Inordinate demands and encouraging others in the same direction. Can he fail to see what contempt such conduct prompts in reasonable people of whatever ilk? Maybe General Sharon should visit Mecca.
onsdag 7. november 2001 00:53 Of course the logic is different with extreme Islam from what it was vs USSR: religions do not go bankrupt financially.
04:12 If smallpox is actually a threat, but it is dangerous to unnecessarily innoculate adults (due to side-effects), what is against innoculating children? Would that not be good strategy? Or is it too honest?
torsdag 8. november 2001 22:06 There was something a bit cheerful about Usurper´s saying USA at war --- as if relieved to have the fog over his so-called Presidency dissipated by catastrophe. Rather like the doctor who couldn´t do anything for the common cold, so he was relieved to find it was pneumonia, which he at least knew what to do about.
22:10 I guess the ESP types who help the FBI etc failed re Sept 11. By the way, Representative Rorabacker (sp?) ( of California), having decided that the assassination of the Northern Alliance leader indicated that Taliban Laden was contemplating something terrible, should have NOT waited until an appointment with Usurper the next day, but spoken to someone immediately --- now, of course it could be the Homeland Security Czar (but would this latter have told the nonhomeland security czarina...). As you may know, the perceptive Representative was set up with an appointment for 14:30 the next day (i e, the eleventh) --- about six hours after the shit hit the fan. Anyway, accepting that he was something of an expert on Afghanistan, still, how come he was (?) the only guy to make a drawing out of the dot?!...........
lørdag 10. november 2001 22:08 Of course right-minded countries want to pitch in against terrorism, but they should also want to pitch in to save the planet from anti-Kyoto-ism and anti-birth-controlism-international --- these latter being indeed far more dangerous than most terrorists. So they should confront USA with all this. No point in protecting vs a secondary menace while ignoring the greater.
22:15 Hey, couldn´t terrorists gather up land-mines and spread them around our parks etc?
101101 2246 Moslems are not the only poor --- so, since some of them have been misbehaving, let´s improve our souls not by helping Moslems, but by helping everyone except them. After all, they have a tribal mentality, don´t they (so all are guilty of the crimes of one)? So let´s help the Buddhists, who are in the same boat with us, after all (considering what Taliban did to those statues)(not to mention history). Let´s help the Tibetans, and the Cambodians. and most of all, the great apes (Orangutangs, Gorillas, Chimps, Bonobos)(and I hope the Gibbons are alright in Thailand). But let´s have a war against poachers everywhere, and send CIA into e g, China to kill those who trade in tiger parts and rhino parts etc. And let´s send the commandoes into the jungles to save the indigenous peoples and plants and special species etc, and kill the bad ranchers and get the Portuguese Catholics in Brazil to have fewer kids so they would not slash and burn for food. By the way, what has Nobel Prize winner Anan and UN done to stop what we euphemisitcally call "female circumcision"? By the way, that pediatrician from Egypt who is bin Laden´s right hand man --- is he one of those doctors from Hell who do such operations (like on tv: "Law and Order"?). By the way, how come that tv show says "...prosecute the guilty", instead of "...prosecute the accused"?!
lørdag 17. november 2001 04:56 Usurper recently blamed debacle (so-called) in Vietnam on USA not following its military. What a fool. What a menace. We all rely on him being retired in 2004.
05:00 Could anthrax bit be a fall- back in case Sept 11 failed?
05:02 Would it be practicable for Saudi to divide itself into two cantons --- one more normal, and the other strict to contain Mecca and Medina? After all, in the old days, the desert part was not (?) thought of as mundanely valuable like now. In the meantime, part of USA´s motive for bases in Gulf was USSR, but not now. So it is mainly now Saddam --- what of future? Remember that bin Laden´s true motive is to help Saddam to take Saudi.
05:07 Let´s impose on Colombia a Scandinavian type political/social system, as part of coalition against international crime.
05:09 And same to save endangered animal species everywhere.
søndag 18. november 2001 08:33 Without bin Laden etc, how would Taliban have been got rid of?! Consider all the by-products of Sept 11.
08:35 The great know what to do before hindsight. The ordinarily skillful are prepared for eventualities.
08:36 Would Gore have immediately taken clever steps which would have prevented Sept 11?
08:54 Did Clinton keep having Arafat in Washington D C so as to protect vs bin Laden?
08:55 Notice Sept 11 re my notion of “crumbling cookie” --- that the departing administration hands an administration of the other party a treacherous problem.
021201 1904 I hope that after yesterday´s bombs in Israel, all and sundry will be cognizant that the interests of the Palestinians are remote from the motivations of the leaders of the pack of terrorists, who, generally speaking, are outside the region, and using, as I have said before, the Palestinians, as usual, as pawns, in a game played by outsiders, while the silly Palestinians get it in the neck --- for who can believe that any intelligent terrorist would hope that these bombings could benefit the Palestinians?! Quite the contrary, what is desired by the big boys is for USA to become all the more a bad guy to the ignorant among the Muslims, while the Israelis are sucked into an Armageddon condition whence to be blown away. It is a silly plan, but USA and Israel etc should not fail to be aware of what is afoot.
1911 I wish here to direct your attention to a structural and a characterological problem vis a vis USA politics, especially re international potitics and war: I call it the 7-11 syndrome. I connect Pearl harbor and Sept 11, and ask (merely asking, mind you) what would have happened if the two term limit rule had applied to FDR, and what if USA had coddled Japan, and if USA fought WW2 as revenge for Pearl Harbor --- is it necessary for disasters to occur so as to mobilize the American people?! It is very easy to blame the President, whether FDR or Clinton, but at bottom it is the American people, the nation, the government generally, the special interests, the so-called experts; in a word the play of politics in democracy, that is responsible at large --- the president is NOT Santa Claus. Imagine Clinton then knowing what he knows today, could he have gone to the nation and said it, and got support? I of course (and you notice that I am not president) would have deealt with the period quite differently --- I would not have permitted Malosevich and his gang to destabilize USA foreign policy. I would have dealt with the nazi types in former Yugoslavia by the end of 1993. I would then have been in position to deal not only with bin Laden (who would not have left sudan alive) and his pediatrician from Egypt, but also decisively frozen the brutality in Ruanda/Burundi, as well as saving the gorillas and chimps and bonobos as well as the orangutangs and the jungles of Indonesia. So it is a bit childish for Americans, who , as a nation, scoffed at the deaths of hundreds of thousands, on the basis that interference was not according to the scenario of then current politics, to claim the sympathy of the world for a mere, say, 5000 deaths. Every year in Europe, 9000 pedestrians die on the roads. I wonder if Sept 11 really will wake up the American people to their manifest destiny as not only policeman of the world, but also judge and executioner. I care more about the trade in death of endangered species than i do about the loss of an ugly couple of skyscrapers. And, altho i assume for the sake of argument that the victims of Sept 11 were the salt of the earth, the nation as a whole has guilt immeasurable, to expiate generally. USA policy against aiding birth control internationally may bring about the collapse of the human race, and of many species, simply crowded off the planet --- in that perspective 5000 is not even a drop in the bucket. In the meantime, crises will occur, and USA cannot drift along with its age-old system of shedding its skin every four years.
The transition from Bush to Clinton, the election indeed, itself, per se, of 1992, putting USA in a limbo as to former Yugoslavia, exemplifies the impossibility to continue to act decisively in response to events everywhere --- they do not respectfully wait on USA elections, far from it, they exploit our instability due to the periodical change of leadership. Something drastic must be done to change that system (and of course we cannot rely on some constant team of bureacrats, as in the cynical-satirical Brit tv show "Yes, Minister". In the meantime, at the recent transition from Clinton to Usurper, the latter should have taken Arafat aside and whispered into his ears that he would get no better deal from the new USA administration than from the previous, and he had better wake up and get his act in gear or else suffer the wrath of USA --- that would have doubtless galvanized Arafat or else put him on the skids. Arafat is expendible.
The doctrine of callous neglect in Afghanista for the past several years is the same that prevented swift action in former Yugoslavia --- let the dummies kill themselves; maybe now we can see the folly of that. But maybe altho Sept 11 was more extreme than either bush or Binladn expected, a policy of let the shit hit the fan was instituted so as to get automatic excuse for war. I mean, after all, even if international action was precluded, still we should have vastly improved our defensive stance --- unless it was a conspiracy of indifference: and why would the big boys want that? --- so as to get done what the cowlike American People and their neuter politicians etc could not otherwise get done. Dont get me wrong --- consider the recent remarks of Secy defense Rumsfeld: we need to be ready for attacks even worse. Of course; so, as with Pearl Harbor, USA had to be awakened to save itself, and Sept 11 would thus be cheap at the price. Imagine us drifting along with the tumbling tumble-weed until caught in a REAL prairie-fire.
Of course military courts bit lets USA off the hook as to any weakness in case vs Binladn. Binladn tape may have been to make the point that he (they) were not as evil as to really want so many dead, but things just got out of hand. Another consideration is that if Binladn is actually a patsy for e g maybe Sadaam, he would be supposed to carry the can more effectively via the famous video tape; one indeed should ask who really is responsible for making the tape, etc --- I mean even if media is fascinated by its hide and seek game, reasonable observers of the customary farce should keep in mind what in chess is called “the whole board”. I am convinced that Clinton used the Monica bit to distract the infantile media (i e, all the media)( and the stupid politicians) away from Kosovo while he prepared a fait accompli, and avoided the insane kibbitzing that stalled USA re Bosnia --- distraction and disaster are tried and proven methods of manipulation of the American Bedlam.
torsdag 10. januar 2002 21:06 May I respectfully ask all and sundry, why Americans should be any more concerned about Binladn than about the mafia, the tobacco industry, bad cars, lack of safety generally, guns, ect etc --- plus the lack of health care and education etc etc??!!!!! Of course the nation as an entity cares more about Binladn because it always has does and will care more about its prestige than about the people --- especially if money is at stake. Puerile Sean Hannity on Fox News says USA is the greatest nation on Earth --- maybe it is, I couldn´t care less, but I would not want to live there. What USA means to me I expatiate on as I proceed in this website. One thing it means to me is that when an unspeakable swine like Sean Hannity asks me in the middle of a political discussion if I think USA is the greatest nation on Earth, I can spit in his foul fascist face, so to speak, without being sent to some gulag .
window of opp søndag 13. januar 2002 17:31 About USA controlling immigration: I emphasize the necessity of best hi-tech means of identifying every citizen etc --- we must accept universal “fingerprinting”. I have discussed this before, but now I add the comment that in dealing with germs, we do not usually go about in space-suits, we fight the diseases inside our bodies in various ways. To protect USA boundaries and borders is silly, considering their extent, including the oceans. We need methods of identifying who goes there (which reminds me that my idea may save us from space-invaders, entering thru the border in the sky). Privacy must go --- and with it the insane habit of interfering in ways I disapprove.
w of opp søndag 13. januar 2002 19:05 Sharon is playing re Arafat the same as what was recommended by Sam Adams (Grandfather of The American Revolution) re London: “Get them in the wrong, and keep them in the wrong”. In the meantime, this recent shipment of arms yet again supports my belief that the Palestinians are being used by others for foreign agendas; what purpose is served by the provocative bombings and now the arms shipment, except to drive toward war so the baddies everywhere can gang up on Israel? (Imagine if they had got thru and been used --- what Israel would have done...)(“Let´s you and him fight”) But it remains a mystery to me why Mulla Omar would go along with Binaladn in the terrorist attacks vs USA with the obvious certainty that USA would chop up Taleban good and proper? I mean I have my ideas, tho. Remember that Clinton had a method of seducing enemies by seeming to be diffident, and then confronting them all of a sudden (e g Haiti) --- if we accept the simple principle that the American People simply will not learn in any reasonable way, and require a Pearl Harbor, we have to seriously consider that Clinton etc may have been seducing Boneheadaladin all along so USA could accomplish several purposes by exploiting a terrorist attack by those jerks; after all, 3000 lives is not much in the perspective of international politics and national security: without September 11, 2001, USA would likely still be drifting like sitting ducks in a stagnant pool.
